DIRECTOR OF COACHING, BARRY KAPLAN

Barry Kaplan is career soccer professional with nearly thirty years of outstanding performance as a coach, educator and soccer administrator. His background is based on a formal education consisting of a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tampa and an M.S. from St. Thomas University in Sports Administration, combined with strong practical experience spanning the youth, high school, college and professional game.

Before joining The Palm Harbor Soccer Club, Barry Kaplan was at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, GA where he oversaw the growth and development of the new intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs as they made the transition to NCAA Division 2 status. On the intercollegiate level, Kaplan also tenured time as Head Men's Coach at both St. Thomas University and Nova Southeastern University where he built both programs into regional and national repute and coached several All-Americans.

Prior to moving to Georgia, Kaplan was the Director of Soccer Operations for The Miami Fusion of Major League Soccer from its inception in 1998. During his tenure with the Fusion, Kaplan’s responsibilities included overseeing game and team operations, stadium relations, international game & club relations and player relations. He was involved in the staging of some of the most exciting international matches ever held in Lockhart Stadium such as DC United v. Vasco de Gamma, US Women v. Portugal and the US Men v. Chile. In addition, he had the privilege of working with 3 very diverse and top level coaches; Carlos "Cacho" Cordova, Ivo Wortman & Ray Hudson.

Kaplan began his career in professional soccer in 1994 as the General Manager/Technical Director for the Florida Stars of the USL were he guided the Stars to a playoff berth in their first season.

Barry Kaplan’s coaching career has reflected success at all levels of the game. As a college coach, he has been selected 6 times Conference/Regional Coach of the Year on both the Men’s and Women’s side. On the youth level, Kaplan has been on the coaching and instructional staffs of both Florida and Georgia ODP programs. He has attended coaching schools for both US Soccer (A, B, C levels) and the NSCAA (National, Advanced National & Premiere diplomas).

Kaplan has also been very involved with Maccabi USA. Most recently he was Head Coach for the United States Maccabi U-17 Girls in the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, July 2009 where they earned a silver medal. He has also coached the U-16 boys in the Pan American Maccabi Games, Sao Paulo 2002, U-18 boys in the Pan American Games, Buenos Aires 2007 as well as the U-16 boys for the World Maccabiah in Israel in 2005,

Barry lives in Palm Harbor with his wife Mona and daughter Paige who attends Palm Harbor University High School. They also have a son Marc who attends Georgia Southwestern State University.

Carlos Rodriquez - Asst. Dir. of Training & Player Development
SENIOR BOYS

Carlos Rodriguezwas born in Cali Colombia starting his career playing for the famed Deportivo Cali at the age of 8.  According to Carlos, "Deportivo Cali traded for me me for 12 balls and 15 cones" .

He played in the South American Tournament (CARAS SUCIAS) in Ecuador at the age of 12 and the South American Tournament (DIENTES DE LECHE) in Brazil at the age of 13.

He then went to AMERICA DE CALI for 6months as a rookie, moved to Boca Juniors of Cali for 6 more months and ultimately returned  to Deportivo Cali where he started playing at the2nd division at the age of 15. Carlos made his professional debut at the age of 16, but injuries and family decisions lead him to Hillsborough  North Carolina (orange county) for a chance at a better future. While in North Carolina as an exchange student, Carlos received a number of offers to play college soccer. After considering the scholarship opportunities from NC State Virginia Tech and UNC Chapel Hill he decided to relocate to Tampa, where he had family.  

In Tampa Carlos was selected to play for The Tampa Bay Cyclones but after making the playoffs in their first season the team moved to Jacksonville. Carlos decided to stay in Tampa and go to college at ITT Technical Institute were where he received his Bachelors of Science in Electronics and Computer Engineering.

Carlos is still an active player in the adult soccer scene in the area.

Mark McKay - Asst. Dir. of Training & Player Development
ACADEMY BOYS

Mark McKay came to PHNSC from Scotland by way of Houston Texas. As a player Mark began is career with the famed Hibernian Football Club of the Scotish Premiere League in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 1986 Mark traveled to South Africa to play with Durban City Football Club in the South African First Division where he played in the South African Cup Final.

In 1990 he went to England where he spent 2 years with the Doncaster Rovers Football Club. And in 1993, Mark moved to Houston, Texas where he played with the Houston Hotshot of the Continental Indoor Soccer League. While with the Hotshots Mark played in the 1995 C.I.S.L. Championship game.

Mark has been on the coaching staffs of Woodlands Elite (1996-2002), Texas Rush (2002-2005), and Albion Hurricanes Soccer Clubs (2005-2006).

In 2007 Mark and his family moved to Florida where he joined the PHNSC as a trainer.

Mark’s has an FA Badge and a Scotish "C" License.

 

 

STEPHANIE WEBB - ASST. DIR OF TRAINING & PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
GIRLS ACADEMY

Stephanie Webb "Webby" attended Stetson University and graduated this past spring with her degree in Health/Exercise Science, and Sports Management. She played 2 seasons for the Hatters, transfering there from University of Texas-San Antonio. Webby, grew up in England where she was a member of the storied Arsenal Soccer Academy and played with the Arsenal Ladys Football Club, Portsmouth FC, and Southampton FC. 

She has earned a UEFA B certificate and a NSCAA National Diploma. Off of the field Webby enjoy’s listening to music, watching movies, and being physically active.
